The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Thursday was an upbeat 95-69-146 as the TSX Venture Exchange added five points to 632. Richard Dufresne's Quebec Nickel Corp. (QNI) closed unchanged at three cents on 398,000 shares. The company has new assays from its Ducros nickel-cobalt-copper project, northeast of Val d'Or in northwestern Quebec. The headline hit returned 0.19 per cent nickel and a modest amount of cobalt over 293 metres commencing near surface. A second hole did the same, but over 217 deeper metres and a third had lesser grades -- not that there was much to give up from the richer holes -- over 109.5 metres.
The hits came from the Ducros Sill target, the southern half of a 15-kilometre-long, two-kilometre-wide sill complex in the south-central part of the company's property. The area saw four holes completed about 35 years ago, one of which returned a result much like those revealed today. And so, with the new assays showing no more promise than those from decades earlier, perhaps a new generation of geologists, drillers and promoters will resurrect Ducros in the mid-21st Century.
