Haywood Securities Inc.'s former employee, Roberto Chu, has filed a lawsuit against the firm in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, claiming that Haywood improperly fired him over a transaction involving his brother's account. He says that Haywood falsely accused him of lying and stealing. The firm made the accusations in order to obtain Mr. Chu's book of business, according to the suit.

The allegations are contained in a notice of claim that Mr. Chu filed at the Vancouver courthouse on June 12, 2025. The case arises from Mr. Chu's firing from Haywood, which occurred exactly two years prior to the suit, on June 13, 2023. At the time, Mr. Chu had been with Haywood for 13 years.

The events at issue, as set out by Mr. Chu, go back to a relatively simple transaction involving Mr. Chu's brother. On Feb. 6, 2023, Mr. Chu's brother asked him to sell shares that his brother held in a personal account and transfer the money to a joint account that the two men held. Mr. Chu says that he did as instructed, but his brother then complained to Haywood that the transaction was unauthorized.
