Globe sees BCSC excel . . . at advertising

2025-03-12 07:57 ET - In the News

The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition that the BC Securities Commission thought outside the box -- and the bounds of bureaucratic civility -- with its latest campaign to educate the public about the growing threat of scammers who use sophisticated artificial-intelligence tools. The Globe's Mike Hager writes that the regulator recently produced a six-song album titled We Are All F**ked and filmed a music video for the EP's title track to issue a warning about how criminals use AI technology to advance various romance, crypto and fake investment schemes. The $1.8-million campaign debuted six weeks ago and is gaining fans on-line. It is also garnering lots of interest from fellow investment regulatory agencies around the world, which have asked the regulator to explain the campaign at two industry conferences. AI-generated deepfakes of voices and other media are a cheap and increasingly popular option for cybercriminals trying to defraud people or businesses. Kyle Waye, creative director for the Vancouver-based ONE23WEST ad agency, said he wrote the lyrics for all six songs on the EP. He concedes that for five of them, he came up with the first few lines, then asked ChatGPT to finish the rest of the lyrics.
