Mr. Darcy Higgs reports
URZ3 ENERGY SIGNIFICANTLY EXPANDS URANIUM EXPLORATION PORTFOLIO IN WYOMING'S POWDER RIVER BASIN
URZ3 Energy Corp. has acquired additional mineral lands that significantly expand its uranium exploration portfolio within Wyoming's Powder River basin, one of the premier in situ recovery (ISR) uranium districts in the United States.
Highlights:
-
Acquired three Wyoming state mineral leases covering approximately 1,920 acres;
-
Staked 437 additional unpatented mining claims covering approximately 9,000 acres;
-
Expanded the company's Wyoming uranium land position by approximately 10,900 acres;
-
Certain newly acquired properties are contiguous with the company's Dry Fork project, while others represent exploration opportunities elsewhere within the basin;
-
Acquisitions target favourable sandstone-hosted uranium trends prospective for in-situ recovery-style mineralization;
-
Field evaluation and target generation programs are planned for 2026;
-
Streamlined the company's broader exploration portfolio to focus capital and technical resources on ISR-amenable uranium opportunities.
The company has acquired three Wyoming state mineral leases covering approximately 1,920 acres and has staked 437 unpatented mining claims covering approximately 9,000 acres, increasing its Wyoming land position by approximately 10,900 acres.
The acquisitions expand URZ3's presence in one of North America's premier ISR uranium districts and provide a larger pipeline of prospective exploration targets for future evaluation.
Certain of the newly acquired properties are contiguous with the company's Dry Fork project, while others represent separate exploration properties elsewhere within the Powder River basin that management believes merit systematic geological evaluation. The newly acquired properties were selected based on favourable geological characteristics, historical uranium exploration and their potential to host ISR-amenable uranium mineralization.
The Powder River basin has a long history of successful ISR uranium exploration and production and continues to attract exploration and development activity. The basin is home to the Nichols Ranch ISR uranium mine, originally developed by Uranerz Energy Corp. and now owned and operated by Energy Fuels Inc. (NYSE American: UUUU; Toronto Stock Exchange: EFR).
The newly staked mining claims are subject to federal and county approvals and claim validation.
Darcy Higgs, interim chief executive officer of URZ3, commented:
"These acquisitions significantly strengthen URZ3's exploration portfolio in one of the most prospective uranium districts in the United States. By expanding both around our existing Dry Fork project and into additional prospective areas across the Powder River basin, we have assembled a substantial land position that provides multiple opportunities for uranium discovery. We believe this expanded portfolio provides a strong foundation for systematic exploration and long-term value creation."
Exploration plans
The company intends to complete geological compilation, target generation, permitting reviews and field evaluations across the newly acquired properties during 2026. Exploration priorities will focus on identifying targets prospective for sandstone-hosted uranium mineralization amenable to ISR extraction where appropriate.
URZ3 continues to evaluate additional acquisition opportunities where management believes they can complement the company's existing portfolio and enhance long-term shareholder value.
Further updates will be provided as the mining claim filing process is completed and exploration activities advance.
Portfolio optimization
As part of its strategy to concentrate capital and technical expertise on its highest-priority uranium assets, the company has streamlined its broader exploration portfolio.
In April, 2024, URZ3 acquired mineral claims in the Athabasca basin. Following a strategic review, the company elected not to renew those claims in order to focus its financial and technical resources on projects that are more closely aligned with the company's expertise in exploring for and advancing ISR-amenable uranium deposits.
Additionally, Austin Gold Corp. terminated its interest in the exploration and option to enter joint venture agreement, as amended, covering the Kelly Creek project in Humboldt county, Nevada. URZ3 intends to allow the Kelly Creek claims to lapse and terminate the associated lease.
The company continues to retain what management believes are the most prospective claims within its legacy Nevada gold portfolio, including 94 claims at Bottle Creek and 116 claims at South Grass Valley.
