The Financial Post reports in its Thursday edition that Rogers has launched 5G service for its customers on parts of Toronto's subway system, skirting a dispute with other telcos that are seeking access to the network. The Post's Denise Paglinawan writes that in an announcement Wednesday, Rogers said 5G service is available for its customers in 25 stations and some connecting tunnels, which it said are the busiest sections of the Toronto Transit Commission subway system. The company said it also upgraded the cellular network, providing all TTC riders in those areas access to 911 service. The launch follows a filing Rogers made to the Industry Minister earlier this month, arguing it should be allowed to add cellular service for its own customers in the Toronto subway without waiting for its dispute with rival carriers to be resolved. "As we have stated from the outset, we are committed to working with Bell, Telus and Freedom Mobile to ensure that all Torontonians can use their mobile phones in the subway system, regardless of their carrier," Rogers said in the filing addressed to Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne. Mr. Champagne had launched a consultation process in July in a bid to speed up negotiations.
