The National Post reports in its Wednesday edition that police in a Toronto suburb have posted a reminder to X (formerly Twitter) that "coffee mishaps are brutal, but NOT a 911 emergency," after someone called the emergency response line to complain about a problem with their Tim Hortons iced cappuccino. The unbylined item says the message includes a short recording of the interaction between the unidentified caller and the dispatch operator. Asked what is the emergency, the caller begins: "So basically I bought an iced capp from, uh, Tim Hortons --." The operator then cuts in, "Is this a life or death emergency, sir?" "Uh, no, it's like, I bought one but then, they are not giving me a replacement." With speed and remarkable restraint the operator replies, "OK, I'm going to give you the phone number for the non-emergency line, OK?" To which the disgruntled consumer responds, "I think I'm good." The Peel Regional Police's post points out that last year the 911 centre received 125,000 "misuse calls" and 180,000 hang-ups, using the hashtag #911Awarenesspeel. In May, Peel police posted a similar recording of a man who was ordering a sandwich and called to complain that he had not received his order or a refund.
