The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday edition that Quebecor extended its run of surging wireless subscriber growth and revenue gains, driving the stock price to new highs as its rivals grapple with slower growth in Canada's mature telecom market. The Globe's Irene Galea writes that Quebecor shares rose 4.3 per cent on Thursday as the company added nearly 137,000 net new wireless customers in the three months to the end of September, the largest quarterly increase in the number of subscriber connections since the launch of the mobile service in 2010. This beat analyst expectations of 92,100, and came ahead of its two rivals who have already published third-quarter earnings: Bell Canada, which reported 53,700 additions Thursday, and Rogers, which posted 17,000 new wireless customers at the end of October. Telus reports earnings Friday. Quebecor has emerged as a significant player in the sector in recent years as it has expanded into new regions with its Freedom Mobile brand, which it acquired in 2023. "This was a strong performance by the company in a market that saw overall net addition declines and points to a strong momentum going into the holiday period," Scotiabank analyst Maher Yaghi said in a note to investors.
