The Globe and Mail reported on Friday edition that Scotia Capital's Maher Yaghi continues to rate Quebecor "sector perform." The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Yaghi raised his target by $2 to $38. Analysts on average target the shares at $37.54. Mr. Yaghi says in a note: "Most of the questions on [Thursday's] conference call, and for good reason, were related to the strategy and outlook regarding the Freedom business. Management has been very methodical over the last few years in pursuing a profit first strategy while at the same time offering differentiated services in Quebec. The stakes for BCE, Telus and especially Rogers are much higher now vs. 2010 when Quebecor entered the Quebec wireless market. Last week and this week, we saw a very public price war erupting in Ontario between Rogers and BCE, but in this case the prize is not home phone but the bundle. Both companies have a cost advantage against Quebecor on the bundle, and they don't seem to be afraid to use it to the benefit of the consumer. ... We think it will be hard for Quebecor to effectively compete within this pricing environment on the bundle while at the same time generate the strong margins that the company has been known to deliver."
