FP/wire say health-minded Pepsi beats Q2 expectations

The Financial Post reports in its Friday edition that international growth helped buoy Pepsico's second quarter earnings, as the snacks and beverage giant said it plans to lean into higher-protein offerings and smaller portion sizes. A Bloomberg dispatch to the Post says the company, which owns the Gatorade, Lipton and Quaker brands, reported organic sales growth of 2.1 per cent in the quarter ended June 14, outpacing analyst estimates. Earnings per share were $2.12, also higher than market expectations (all figures U.S.). Pepsico also maintained its annual outlook. Its shares closed at $145.44, up $10.09 in New York, after declining 11 per cent this year compared with a 6.5-per-cent rise in the S&P 500 index in the same period. With a broad range of products from breakfast cereals and fruit juices to salty snacks and soft drinks, the company is working to overcome a trend toward healthier, less processed foods, as well as lower cost private-label options. It also plans to relaunch Lays and Tostitos, elevating the "real food credentials" of the products, including the use of avocado and olive oil. Pepsico said it continues to expect "incremental supply chain costs," including from tariffs, for the balance of 2025.
