Ongwe starts drilling at Omatjete gold project

ONGWE MINERALS COMMENCES MAIDEN DRILL CAMPAIGN AT ITS NEWLY DISCOVERED NGUNI PROSPECT, NAMIBIA

Ongwe Minerals Inc. has commenced drilling at its newly discovered Nguni gold prospect, situated 17 kilometres east of the Manga gold discovery, at the Omatjete gold project.

Highlights:

  • Two drill rigs mobilized for the inaugural drilling campaign at the newly discovered Nguni prospect, a high-grade gold-in-soil anomaly with a strike length in excess of six kilometres.
  • One diamond drill rig will focus on the highest-grade portions of the soil anomaly with an initial drill plan comprising 18 holes for 3,500 metres.
  • A second reverse circulation drill rig will focus on testing the strike extension of the soil anomaly with 13 holes planned for 1,500 m.
  • A stepout diamond drill program comprising five holes for 1,000 m has been finalized to test the eastern extension of the Manga gold prospect, a promising gold-in-soil and gold-in-bedrock anomaly located 17 km west of Nguni.

Nguni is a large, high-grade, gold-in-soil anomaly discovered by Ongwe in May, 2026, during a regional soil sampling program. The sampling program targeted the regionally significant Okondeka fault zone (OFZ), which hosts both WIA Gold's Kokoseb gold deposit and Ongwe's Manga gold discovery. Situated 55 km east of Kokoseb and 17 km east of Manga, Nguni is being rapidly advanced through detailed surface work and drilling, with the aim of converting the target into a large-scale economic discovery.

Dave Underwood, Ongwe's chief executive officer, commented: "The central portion of the Nguni gold anomaly has now been closely defined by infill soil sampling, with 50 soil samples above 300 ppb Au, peaking at 1,310 ppb Au. This represents a six km long, high-grade soil anomaly similar in scale and tenor to the anomaly at the neighbouring Kokoseb gold deposit, before it was drilled. We are now embarking on the maiden, fully funded drill program at this exciting target. A diamond drill rig has been mobilized to test the highest-grade portion of the anomaly so that we can collect detailed geological, structural and mineralogical information upfront, in order to better guide the follow-on drill program. The lower-grade (central) portions of the anomaly will be scout drilled using an RC rig, which provides a quick and relatively cheap method of establishing grade potential and allows for ranking of targets.

"We are also planning a diamond step-out drill program at Manga over the highest grade and width portion of the bedrock anomaly defined earlier in the year. The priority bedrock anomaly starts east of the previous RC drilling at Manga, stretches for at least a 1,000 m and is still open to the east."

Nguni prospect

The Nguni gold anomaly was discovered by Ongwe during regional soil sampling along the Okondeka fault system in May, 2026. The initial regional sampling was carried out on a 200 by 200 m square grid and later infilled to 50 by 50 m spacing over the anomalous areas. The Nguni area is flat lying and there is very little outcrop visible. The gold anomaly lies along narrow zones of metasediments between late to post orogenic granites and appears to be in situ within residual soils.

The Nguni anomaly extends over six km of strike and includes targets with varying orientations, width and intensity. A two-pronged drill program has been planned as follows:

  • A diamond drill program of approximately 18 holes for 3,500 m initially, starting in the northwest corner of the anomaly and covering the higher-grade soils in the northwestern and southeastern portions.
  • A scout drill program of approximately 1,500 m using an RC rig. This program is aimed at first-pass testing of the lower priority targets to establish economic potential and priority.
  • Either or both programs will be expanded or modified as indicated by the logging and assay results.

Geological mapping of the limited outcrop indicates that the targeted metasedimentary units predominantly dip toward the south-southeast and the initial holes will therefore be drilled toward the north, except for one RC line positioned on the nose of the fold closure. Detailed logging of the initial core will be used to refine the drill parameters.

Manga prospect

The Manga prospect was discovered during the initial regional Omatjete soil sampling program carried out in Q4 2024. The 200 by 200 m regional soil grid outlined an arsenic and gold anomaly approximately 4.5 km long and one km wide at the widest point. Infill sampling to 100 by 25 m tightened up the surface anomaly and provided follow-up targets. The soil sampling was followed up with two trenches and 11 RC scout holes. Ten of the 11 RC holes returned anomalous gold values, several with wide low-grade intercepts including 138 m at 0.22 g/t Au in hole MRC006. As the Manga area is covered by calcrete and alluvial sediment cover, a decision was taken in early 2026 to drill vertical holes through the calcrete cover and sample the top of bedrock beneath. This exploration technique was pioneered by Osino Resources at Twin Hills and has proved effective in defining mineralized footprints in hard rock below calcrete cover. The results from this program indicate that the Manga prospect becomes wider and higher-grade toward the east and it is now clear that the calcrete cover gets thicker towards the east, masking the gold mineralization in the bedrock beneath.

Manga drilling

A diamond drilling program of five holes for 1,000 m is planned for the Manga east extension, with an average planned depth of 200 m. The initial holes will be oriented and drilled toward the northwest, but drill parameters may be modified by the detailed logging.

The company also plans to undertake a calcrete sampling program to trace gold mineralization beneath the calcrete cover east of the current bedrock sampling extent. If the calcrete results confirm that the mineralized trend continues, the company will use follow-up bedrock sampling to refine the target before testing it with diamond drilling.

Assay method

During the soil sampling programs, the company initially utilized the detectORE analytical technique, designed to enable the measurement of trace gold concentrations in geological samples using a portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) instrument. This process overcomes the traditional limitations of gold analysis by pXRF including low gold concentrations and metal peak interference. The method involves leaching 250 g of sieved material in a sealed pouch with 500 millilitres of GLIX-20 lixiviant and a collector device (CD). Following a 16-hour tumble in a Maxi Mixer barrel to dissolve the gold, the CD is removed, rinsed and analyzed for 150 seconds using detectORE mode firmware. This partial analysis technique is managed through pLIMS software with strict QA/QC (quality assurance/quality control) protocols to identify relative gold anomalism. An extensive orientation program was carried out before putting the detectORE methodology into production by comparing soil, calcrete and rock chip sample assays with aqua regia and FireICP. The detectORE system performed extremely well and identified the same anomalies as the laboratory techniques in all conditions. The detectORE gold technique is designed for rapid on-site assessment and is not used for the formal quantification of gold content or the estimation of mineral resources.

As part of the current exploration program, all soil samples undergo initial multielement analysis utilizing the company's in-house pXRF. All trace element anomalies, including base metal and arsenic anomalies are then analyzed through the company's detectORE system. Any area returning a value equal to or greater than 10 detectable units (dU) are prioritized for follow-up soil sampling. All follow-up soil samples are analyzed via fire assay at the MSALAB facility in Omaruru, Namibia. The fire assay procedure starts by drying the less than 212 u and plus/minus 250 g soil sample. The sample is then pulverized to 85 per cent passing 75 micrometres, from which a final 50 g aliquot is taken for fire assay with an atomic absorption (AA) finish.

QA/QC

All of Ongwe's sample assay results have been independently monitored through a quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) program including the insertion of blind standards, blanks and field duplicate samples. The company maintains rigorous monitoring for both in-house and laboratory analyses to ensure data reliability. For the detectORE process, which provides rapid on-site assessment of gold anomalism, a certified reference material (CRM) sample is inserted every 15 samples to monitor the performance of the pXRF instrument and the leaching efficiency. For the formal fire assay verification conducted at MSALABS, a CRM is inserted every 30 samples. This laboratory procedure involves precise pulverization and a 50 g fire assay with an atomic absorption (AA) finish to provide formal quantification for prioritized bedrock samples.

Data verification

Carl Joone, BSc (honours), the president and co-founder of Ongwe Minerals, and a qualified person for the purposes of National Instrument 43-101, has verified all the data disclosed, including a review of the sampling procedures, chain of custody and assay results underlying the disclosure, by plotting and verifying against raw data received. Mr. Joone noted no errors or omissions during the data verification process.

The Omatjete project still has significant growth potential and work is ongoing to define further anomalies along the Okondeka fault system.

The Khorixas gold project is situated just 60 km west of Osino's Eureka gold project, adjacent to the northern margin of the Damara orogenic belt. Khorixas hosts two large-scale surface discoveries called Belmont and K17. The Belmont prospect has a surface gold footprint of approximately 12 by six km and lies between the regional scale, basin margin, Khorixas fault and the Belmont thrust zone. Calcrete and grab sampling to date have indicated 18 target areas.
