Mr. Jonathan McGuire reports

GLOBAL X LAUNCHES POWERSTOCK ETF SUITE TO GIVE CANADIANS 33% MORE EXPOSURE TO THEIR HIGHEST CONVICTION STOCKS

Global X Investments Canada Inc. has launched PowerStock ETFs, a new suite of lightly-leveraged single-stock ETFs (exchange-traded funds) that offer Canadians the ability to increase their investment exposure to individual companies they believe in for the long term, without the need for margin. Units of the ETFs begin trading today on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX).

Global X's initial PowerStock lineup offers enhanced exposure to six companies that have captured investors' attention around the world: Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, NVIDIA, SpaceX and Tesla.

Each of the PowerStock ETFs seeks to provide long-term capital appreciation by targeting 33-per-cent additional exposure to its underlying stock -- approximately $133 of stock exposure for every $100 invested. The ETFs trade in Canadian dollars and hedge foreign currency exposure back to the Canadian dollar. This enhanced exposure magnifies movements in the underlying stock in both directions, meaning investors may experience larger gains or losses than they would from holding the stock directly.

"Canadians with strong conviction in a company's long-term potential deserve more choice in how they invest," said Rohit Mehta, president and chief executive officer of Global X. "Our PowerStock ETFs offer Canadians a straightforward way to add 33-per-cent more exposure through a single ETF purchase, without opening or managing a margin account. They also bring that exposure to registered accounts, including TFSAs and RRSPs, where investors cannot access margin."

Built for growth with measured leverage

PowerStock ETFs keep capital appreciation at the centre of their strategy. They do not write covered calls, preserving participation in the underlying stock's upside without the limitation that a covered-call overlay can potentially impose, particularly for companies with long-term growth potential.

In addition, unlike some leveraged ETFs that target two or three times a stock's daily return, PowerStock ETFs use a more modest level of leverage and do not reset leverage daily. This approach is designed to give investors enhanced exposure to a company's long-term growth potential, while magnifying both gains and losses.

"The amount of leverage matters, as does how it is managed," said Chris McHaney, executive vice-president, head of investment management and strategy, at Global X. "With PowerStock ETFs, we're targeting a measured increase in stock exposure for investors with a strong view of a company's long-term prospects. Greater upside exposure also means greater downside exposure. Investors need to be comfortable with larger swings in value and the possibility of larger losses than they would experience owning the stock directly."

PowerStock ETFs build on Global X's experience using light leverage to provide enhanced market exposure. The firm's existing suite of index-based enhanced ETFs spans 20 products and holds approximately $1.3-billion in assets under management. With PowerStocks, Global X is extending that approach to individual companies, giving investors another way to pursue long-term capital appreciation.

Each PowerStock ETF is concentrated in a single company and does not provide diversification. Borrowing costs, fees, market conditions and changes in leverage affect returns. Investors should consider these ETFs within the context of their overall portfolio and monitor their holdings regularly.

The ETFs closed their initial offering of units to their designated broker and will begin trading today on the TSX.
