The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition that gold's glitter is back. The Globe's Shirley Won writes that Comex futures hit a record high on Tuesday of $2,362.40 an ounce (all figures U.S.). Given gold's bullish outlook, investors may consider playing gold through exchange traded funds or similar products instead of buying bars and coins. CPM Group's Jeffrey Christian is forecasting record annual gold prices for this year and in 2025. He has been long-term bullish on gold for the past three years. National Bank of Canada ETFs director Daniel Straus has noticed that the amount held in gold-backed ETFs -- particularly in the U.S. -- has been declining since April, 2022. Sentiment, however, may be shifting a bit. Mr. Straus says there was $528-million of flows into U.S.-listed gold bullion ETFs in March -- a reversal of a trend for the first two months of the year when there was $4.6-billion in outflows while the price of gold was rising. He says, "U.S.-based investors certainly tried to chase the recent performance." Among Canadian-listed ETFs, Mr. Straus recommends CI Gold Bullion Fund, Purpose Gold Bullion Fund and BMO Gold Bullion ETF. Management fees range from 0.16 per cent to 0.20 per cent.
