The Financial Post reports in its Thursday, Oct. 29, edition that traders are seeking safety in health care stocks. Since late April, the S&P 500 health-care index has risen about 23 per cent, outperforming the broader market and all other sectors. A Bloomberg dispatch to the Post reports that includes high-flying technology names and surging energy stocks that have benefited from the Iran war against Iran. Health care's rally has been led by Eli Lilly, Abbvie and Johnson & Johnson. Wall Street has been warming up to the sector, particularly as sentiment around artificial intelligence -- and tech in general -- fuels increasing desire for protection from risky assets. The nervous money that was scared of AI is moving back into health care. Health care is being viewed as an anti-AI trade, said Raymond James analyst Matt Orton, adding the cohort has been on the other side of sell-offs in names related to AI spending "angst." Fund flows also point to a change in fortunes. Health care exchange-traded funds have outpaced every other sector on a trailing 65-day basis with about $4-billion (U.S.) of inflows. Tech, on the other hand, has seen the biggest outflows -- $6-billion (U.S.) -- during that period.
