The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Dec. 7, edition that Scotia Capital analyst Orest Wowkodaw has reaffirmed his "sector outperform" recommendation for Hudbay Minerals. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Wowkodaw gave his share target a 50-cent trim to $9.64. He issued his share price downgrade following Hudbay Minerals' release of an updated life-of-mine technical report for its recently acquired Copper Mountain mine. Mr. Wowkodaw says in a note: "Although the LOM production and cash cost profile was above our expectations, planned capex investment was markedly higher than anticipated, particularly in 2024-2028. Overall, we view the update as largely mixed for the shares. Although we remain concerned by the limited progress in balance sheet deleveraging to date, we rate Hudbay Minerals shares 'sector outperform' based on valuation, significant leverage to higher Cu-Au prices, and takeover optionality." The Globe reported on Sept. 20 that Mr. Wowkodaw had reiterated his "sector outperform" recommendation for Hudbay Minerals., which was then worth $6.51.
