Envirometal Technologies Inc. denies that it owes anything to its former chief executive officer, Duane Nelson, who is suing over a $300,000-per-year consulting agreement that the company terminated. Envirometal claims that Mr. Nelson breached the agreement by raising money for another company and providing confidential information to that other company. His actions fell short of the "reasonable standards of work" that were required, Envirometal contends.
The denials from Envirometal come in response to a lawsuit that Mr. Nelson filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia on June 22, 2023. The case arose from Mr. Nelson's resignation as CEO on July 11, 2022. As part of the resignation, Envirometal agreed to retain Mr. Nelson as a consultant for two years, at a rate of $300,000 per year, but Mr. Nelson complained that the company only honoured the deal for a brief period. It paid him just $100,000, he says. His lawsuit seeks the court-ordered payment of the fees he would have received during the remainder of the agreement.
