The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, Jan. 19, edition that BMO Capital Markets analyst Kevin O'Halloran reinstated coverage of Equinox Gold with an "outperform" recommendation and $8 share target. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that analysts on average target the shares at $8.55. Mr. O'Halloran says in a note: "We see value in the company's 60-per-cent stake in the Greenstone project, a large new gold mine in Ontario advancing to first production in H1/24. The company currently trades at a discounted 0.6 times NAV vs. peers at 0.9 times; we expect Equinox shares to rerate to higher multiples in the coming quarters as Greenstone advances. In addition to Greenstone, the company operates seven gold mines in the Americas, with multiple expansion opportunities offering further growth potential." The Globe reported on Aug. 2, 2021, and March 31, 2023, that National Bank rated the shares "sector perform." They were then worth $5.70 and $6.94. The Globe reported on Sept. 13, 2023, that RBC Capital analyst Wayne Lam had elevated his call for Equinox Gold to "sector perform" from "underperform." The shares were then going for $6.59.
