The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition that RBC analysts see a more "constructive" outlook for gold equities after raising both their short- and long-term price assumptions for the precious metal on Tuesday. The Globe's David Leeder writes that with that view, RBC analyst Wayne Lam elevated his call for Equinox Gold to "sector perform" from "underperform." Mr. Lam boosted his share target by $2.25 to $7.25. Analysts on average target the shares at $8.28. Mr. Lam says in a note: "We upgrade Equinox shares to 'sector perform' as near-term operational risks appear to have moderated with our recent site visit to Greenstone confirming advanced stage progress as the project enters the home stretch. Our [share price target] increases driven by our higher gold price forecast along with updated estimates as Equinox approaches completion of construction. While we maintain a cautious outlook given levered balance sheet and remaining portfolio of higher cost assets, we anticipate improved momentum for Equinox ahead as its flagship asset comes online in H1/24." The Globe reported on Aug. 2, 2021, and March 31, 2023, that National Bank rated the shares "sector perform." They were then worth $5.70 and $6.94.
