Globe says TD's Ryding reaffirms EQB at "buy"

2023-12-12 07:56 ET - In the News

The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that TD analyst Graham Ryding has reaffirmed his "buy" recommendation for EQB. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Ryding gave his share target a $4 boost to $94. Analysts on average target the shares at $99. Mr. Ryding says EQB's 2024 guidance "appears reasonable from a loan and earnings growth perspective." Mr. Ryding says in a note: "Loan growth of 8 to 12 per cent in F2024 appears reasonable, in our view. This includes 5- to 10-per-cent growth for uninsured personal and commercial growth, and 40 to 60 per cent for decumulation (reverse mortgages and insurance lending). Notably, multi-unit insured loans are expected to grow by 20 to 25 per cent as the Department of Finance looks to ramp up its Canada Mortgage Bond (CMB) program, which funds multiunit insured lending, from $40-billion to $60-billion annually. Our F2024 EPS forecast is at the low-end of guidance. We are forecasting loan growth in-line with guidance, modest NIM compression (assuming interest rates decline), and slightly higher PCLs vs. F2023 (12 basis points overall vs. 10 basis points in F2023, and implies mortgage PCLs of 8 basis points, in-line with EQB's long-term average)."
