The Financial Post reports in its Friday edition that talks on Canada's liquefied natural gas ambitions and data-centre prospects highlighted third quarter earnings calls in the oil patch. The Post's Meghan Potkins writes that last week, the sector welcomed the start of production at LNG Canada's second processing unit. Canada's first major LNG export facility has been shipping cargoes since June, but technical challenges contributed to an oversupply of gas in Western Canada in the third quarter. Many anticipate the differential between Canadian and U.S. natural gas to narrow with the onset of new LNG export demand. Tourmaline Oil's Jamie Heard said last week, "LNG Canada will go from not doing anything in the first half of this year to drawing up to two billion cubic feet a day, we think as early as the first quarter of 2026." Rising demand from LNG Canada is expected to boost natural gas prices in Western Canada, bolstered by new power-generation and data-centre developments anticipated in the coming years. TC Energy has raised its North American natural gas demand forecast by five billion cubic feet per day, anticipating a nearly 13-per-cent increase due to new LNG export terminals and rising electricity needs.
