The National Post reports in its Friday, Nov. 14, edition that Prime Minister Mark Carney's government is sending proposals for critical minerals mining, clean electricity and a liquefied natural gas project to the Major Projects Office (MPO).
The Post's Stephanie Taylor writes that Mr. Carney announced Thursday that six additional projects would be sent to the MPO, as they align with the government's "nation-building" criteria to stimulate development and attract private investment, ultimately creating new jobs.
The North Coast Transmission Line, deemed "essential" by B.C. Premier David Eby's NDP government, aims to expand the province's electricity grid to support critical minerals and liquefied natural gas development.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's proposal for a new bitumen pipeline to B.C.'s northern coast was not included in Thursday's announcement.
Before Mr. Carney announced his new projects, Ms. Smith's office stated her support, as her United Conservative Party is negotiating with Ottawa on a memorandum of understanding that seeks to have Mr. Carney repeal certain environmental policies. She and other industry leaders argue the policies hamper future pipeline construction.
