The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday edition that Enbridge chief executive officer Greg Ebel is urging Ottawa to take action on energy infrastructure projects, or see Canadian utilities investing in U.S. expansions. The Globe's Andrew Willis writes that following Alberta's campaign for a new pipeline to the B.C. coast, Mr. Ebel outlined steps Prime Minister Mark Carney should take to fulfill promises of making Canada an energy "superpower." Enbridge, along with South Bow and Trans Mountain, is advising the Alberta government on its pipeline application. The Alberta government is investing $14-million for early planning of a pipeline, which it hopes the private sector, potentially with indigenous ownership, will eventually take over. Alberta plans to file a regulatory application to the federal Major Projects Office in the spring. Mr. Ebel pushed Ottawa to encourage investment in energy infrastructure across the country by simplifying regulation, speeding up project reviews, and repealing emissions caps and the industrial carbon price. Mr. Ebel said, "I am skeptically optimistic" the government is open to changing its approach. Mr. Ebel said Enbridge is looking at numerous opportunities to invest in the U.S. market.
