The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Sept. 11, edition that Prime Minister Mark Carney plans a busy fall agenda, starting with Thursday's announcement of "nation-building" projects. The Globe's Stephanie Levitz and Bill Curry write that Mr. Carney announced plans for a new agency to boost home construction and a forthcoming strategy on climate competitiveness, bail legislation and a budget aimed at reducing government spending. Mr. Carney did not provide details on the projects included in the first tranche of Bill C-5, which allows for fast-tracking projects through existing regulatory processes. On Wednesday Mr. Carney met with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, who has made clear that she would like to see a new oil pipeline as an approved project. Ms. Smith, speaking to reporters earlier, showed no concern about reports of no pipeline in the first round. "Don't think that the list as it appears is the final list," she said, adding that the Carney government must also repeal a range of existing laws that hamper the potential for any company to pitch a new pipeline. The Globe reported last week that Ottawa's major-projects draft list includes 14 energy-related projects.
