The National Post reports in its Saturday edition that Energy Minister Tim Hodgson, in his first speech in Calgary, expressed his commitment to a "clean slate" and healing the mistrust between Alberta and the Liberal government. The Post's Rahim Mohamed writes that Mr. Hodgson emphasized his Western Canadian roots as key to addressing divisions over natural resource development in Alberta and other Western provinces. He said he wants to "be a voice for Alberta and Western Canada at the cabinet table." Mr. Hodgson said Canada would "remain a reliable global supplier" of oil and gas under his watch. He also vowed to deliver new infrastructure to get Canadian energy to the coast and "to trusted allies" outside the United States. He added, "It's high time to trade more with people who share our values -- not just our border." The minister also repeated Prime Minister Mark Carney's campaign promise to fast-track projects of national interest, including major energy projects. Mr. Hodgson said, "No more five-year reviews, decisions will come in two years for all projects." Mr. Hodgson pledged to see the PM's vision through to "build Canada into a conventional and clean energy and natural resources superpower."
