UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA DEEPENS STRATEGIC RELATIONSHIP WITH A 12-YEAR RENEWAL OF D2L BRIGHTSPACE

The University of Ottawa (uOttawa) has renewed D2L Inc.'s D2L Brightspace for 12 years to support a more connected, accessible and human-centred learning experience. D2L can help uOttawa meet the needs and aspirations of a new generation of students looking to shape their own futures.

As the world's largest English-French bilingual university, uOttawa is committed to providing inclusive learning opportunities while supporting pedagogical innovation across its institution. For close to a decade, uOttawa has leveraged D2L Brightspace as its learning platform of choice, helping the university build a stronger, more stable foundation to support its learning transformation strategy.

D2L Brightspace is helping the University of Ottawa:

• Create a consistent, shared learning experience for students, with 98 per cent of students using D2L Brightspace;
• Support coherent, inclusive course design, with approximately 85 per cent of faculty leveraging the learning platform;
• Deliver more than 4,000 on-line and hybrid courses each term through a centralized learning environment.

"D2L Brightspace is at the heart of teaching for uOttawa," said Pascal Wickert, interim director of the teaching and learning support service at the University of Ottawa. "It provides engaging tools that transform the way students learn. It also supports faculty by facilitating their work and encouraging them to focus on their teaching and research. Ultimately, it helps further our mission to help our students become 'citizens of tomorrow' who can have an impact on the world in a flexible, sustainable and inclusive way."

With the support of D2L Brightspace, uOttawa is empowering faculty to create more accessible, engaging bilingual courses while reducing administrative burden. Using tools such as D2L Creator+ and H5P, instructors can embed interactive content directly into courses, while built-in accessibility supports allow faculty to meet diverse learner needs. The platform's discussion tools also help create more approachable spaces for learning participation and connection, both on campus and on-line.

"By entering into a long-term contract with D2L, our professors get stability," said Alain St-Amant, vice-provost of academic affairs and chemistry professor at the University of Ottawa. "Any upgrades they make to their courses will have lasting value, and they need not worry about porting content to any new environment in the near future. Consistency is critical when you are supporting tens of thousands of students and thousands of faculty members."
