The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, May 3, edition that Desjardins Securities analyst Brent Stadler has reaffirmed his "buy" recommendation for Capital Power. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Stadler cut his share target back by a loonie to $48. Analysts on average target the shares at $41.91. Mr. Stadler says in a note: "The milder winter and outages related to the repowering project weighed on results, with a more muted impact on cash flows as the repowerings provide favourable tax benefits. After updating our model for the net impact of capex updates, we reduced our target modestly. ... Capital Power is hosting its investor day on May 8 and we expect the focus will be on the steeper load growth curve and demand/need for reliability. We see upside to the story as we move further into the reliability era." The Globe reported on Dec. 13 and Feb. 2 that Mr. Stadler said Capital Power was one of his "preferred names." He rated Capital Power "buy." The shares were then worth $49.59 and $37.45. The Globe's guest columnist Gordon Pape recommended buying Capital Power on Dec. 28 when it could be had for $46.93. The Globe's Norman Rothery was keen on Capital Power on Feb. 24 when it was worth $37.53.
