The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, Feb. 2, edition that Desjardins Securities analyst Brent Stadler calls Capital Power a "preferred name." The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Stadler has an unchanged "buy" recommendation and $51 share target Capital Power. Analysts on average target the shares at $44.11. Mr. Stadler says in a note: "We believe Capital Power offers investors compelling value at current levels. It offers exposure to the hot renewables and Alberta power market, and provides a unique rerate angle, which could add torque to its share price as it works to remove coal (in 2024) and repower the G1 and G2 facilities to be the most efficient gas assets in Canada. Longer-term (2026–27 timeframe), we believe another rerate is possible as Capital Power cleans up its strategically important natural gas assets." The Globe reported on Dec. 13 that Mr. Stadler said Capital Power was one of his "preferred names." He rated Capital Power "buy." The shares could then be had for $49.59. The Globe's guest columnist Gordon Pape recommended buying Capital Power on Dec. 28. The shares could then be had for $46.93.
