The Financial Post reports in its Saturday, Oct. 25, edition that Celestica is soaring as it cashes in on the artificial intelligence bonanza. The Post's Yvonne Lau writes that the rise of AI in recent years has boosted Silicon Valley chipmakers, start-ups and tech titans to stratospheric levels, while also paving the way for Celestica's comeback. It has established itself as a favoured hardware supplier of ethernet switches and other equipment for the tech giants spending hundreds of billions of dollars -- a figure that is estimated to balloon to a few trillion dollars in the next few years -- to construct data centres to power the training and operations of energy-hungry AI models and tools. That positioning has helped boost Celestica's stock by about 385 per cent in the past 12 months, making it one of Canada's top-performing stocks and Canada's third most valuable tech company with a market cap of $43-billion (Canadian). Analysts predict Celestica s hot streak will continue alongside the rapid AI data centre buildout. Still, its future success partly hinges on factors outside its control, including Big Tech's need to diversify suppliers and uncertainty surrounding the longevity of the current AI spending spree.
