The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, Jan. 16, edition that Scotia Capital analyst Orest Wowkodaw has lowered his recommendation for Champion Iron to "sector perform" from "sector outperform." The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Wowkodaw gave his share target a 50-cent boost to $7.50. Analysts on average target the shares at $8.10. The Globe says Mr. Wowkodaw downgraded his rating call despite raising his earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization forecast for Champion Iron through 2026 by an average of 17 per cent per year driven by its higher near-term iron ore price assumption. Mr. Wowkodaw cites "a more balanced risk-reward outlook" at Champion Iron. He expects weaker longer-term iron prices. As well, he sees relatively limited implied return to his 12-month share target. The Globe reported on July 7 that RBC analyst Sam Crittenden rated Champion Iron "outperform." The shares could then be had for $5.03. The Globe reported on Oct. 13 and Nov. 21 that Mr. Wowkodaw had reaffirmed his "sector outperform" recommendation for Champion Iron when it could be had for $5.37 and $6.97.
