The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that ATB Capital Markets analyst Tim Monachello is seeing "the best set up in years" for Canada's energy services sector heading into earnings season, recommending investors take an "overweight" position moving forward. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Monachello downgraded CES Energy Solutions to "sector perform" from "outperform" while raising his share target to $23.50 from $21, citing an "18-per-cent return to target vs a 26-per-cent median for OP rated companies in our energy services coverage." Analysts on average target the shares at $21.93. Mr. Monachello says in a note: "While we believe CES Energy is among the highest quality business models in the Canadian energy sector and we forecast material growth in 2027, the stock is now trading with just 17-per-cent upside to our revised $23.50 price target, materially below the median return-to-target for our coverage. Further, our price target is based on 9.5 times 2027 estimated EV/adj. EBITDAS, which is toward the upper end of CES's historical trading range, and leaves only modest upside potential on multiple expansion. ... We believe CES's upside is likely to track peers."
