Globe says Trump has Boralex, other renewables rallying

The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday, March 14, edition that President Donald Trump's conflict with Iran highlights the need to adopt renewables. The Globe's David Berman writes that the iShares Global Clean Energy ETF has gained nearly 13 per cent this year. Since Mr. Trump began his second term the clean energy fund has surged nearly 66 per cent. The BMO Clean Energy Index ETF has delivered similar returns this year. Admittedly, much of the rebound in renewables has had nothing to do with Mr. Trump's energy polices. Canadian investors can capitalize on Mr. Trump's influence on renewables. Cameco, a uranium producer, has risen 159 per cent in the past year, but CIBC analyst Anita Soni thinks the shares remain undervalued due to strong demand. Among independent power producers, Northland Power has rebounded 32 per cent since late November. Boralex has also endured a bumpy ride but looks attractive given robust growth prospects, according to Desjardins's Brent Stadler. Brookfield Renewable Partners is a company with diverse renewable assets that offers an attractive dividend. Mr. Trump's renewable energy policies are not commendable for those who prioritize cleaner energy, yet he seems to have a magic touch.
