The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, June 22, edition that BMO Capital Markets analyst Michael Murphy has reaffirmed his "market perform" ranking for Baytex Energy. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Murphy gave his share target a 50-cent trim to $5.50. Analysts on average target the shares at $7.41. Mr. Murphy says in a note: "The company provided updated guidance for Q2/23 including the wildfire impact and for H2/23 pro-forma the Ranger acquisition. We continue to view this transaction as improving long term sustainability for the company, although leverage remains elevated relative to peers in the near term, with lower shareholder returns. That being said, we see the stock as offering considerable torque to improving oil prices through the back half of the year." The Globe reported on March 2 that ATB Capital Markets analyst Amir Arif had elevated his recommendation for Baytex Energy to "outperform" from "sector perform." The shares could then be had for $5.40. The Globe reported on April 12 that RBC Capital Markets analyst Greg Pardy had elevated his recommendation for Baytex Energy to "outperform" from "sector perform." It was then worth $5.43.
