The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Sept. 14, edition that Haywood Securities analyst Christopher Jones is sticking with his "buy" call on Bonterra Energy. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Jones gave his share target a 50-cent raise to $10. Analysts on average target the shares at $9.80. The Globe says Mr. Jones has reaffirmed his view of Bonterra Energy as "a top high beta and correlation idea to benefit from higher crude prices" after Tuesday's announcement of a rebranding of its corporate strategy with "a focus on returning to a capital returns model." Mr. Jones says in a note: "In addition, the company announced a RoC framework where upon hitting its net debt target of $135-million, it will return 25 per cent of FCF to shareholders via base and special dividends with 75 per cent of FCF allocated towards growth capital and further debt repayment. Finally, we consider that M&A may represent a larger part of the Company's strategy than the previous one." The Globe reported on Aug. 28, 2021, that Bonterra's chief executive officer was buying shares, which were then worth $4.84. The Globe reported on Feb. 15 that Stifel hiked Bonterra to "buy" from "hold." It was then worth $6.96.
