The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday edition that the MP for Bowmanville-Oshawa North, Jamil Jivani, should be a great asset to his party. The Globe's Robyn Urback writes that he went to Yale Law School, survived cancer and is a friend of U.S. Vice-President JD Vance. The sad fact is, Mr. Jivani keeps blowing things up. He was let go from his Bell Media talk radio gig in 2022 and sued, alleging he was fired for not adhering to an ideological stereotype. Bell said he invited guests on his show who spread false information and exhibited a "resistant and combative attitude" when challenged by management. He was appointed adviser to Ontario Premier Doug Ford in 2019, but resigned in 2022 after calling the education minister "incompetent." Most recently, he went on an independent trip to the U.S. to talk trade, blaming Canada for the trade tensions. He did not once call out President Donald Trump's tariffs on Canadian goods. Mr. Jivani said Canadians are "shooting ourselves in the foot if we continue this anti-America ... hissy fit." He could have said Mr. Trump's tariffs were harmful to both countries, but did not. He also took the Trump view that Canada's new trade agreement with China was "100 per cent" a mistake.
