Mr. Joe St. Julian reports
ATKINSREALIS WELCOMES VOYAGEUR TO CANADIANS FOR CANDU
AtkinsRealis Group Inc. today welcomed indigenous-owned Voyageur Services Ltd. to the Canadians for CANDU campaign. The addition of a new ambassador reflects the growing momentum behind the Canadians for CANDU campaign and support behind a sovereign Canadian nuclear industry.
Voyageur Services is a strong example of how Canada's nuclear ecosystem supports indigenous-owned businesses, skilled employment and long-term economic participation across the supply chain. Its work in Ontario's nuclear sector demonstrates that the benefits of CANDU extend well beyond electricity generation, creating opportunities for indigenous entrepreneurship, work force development, specialized services and stronger domestic industrial capacity.
"We are pleased to welcome Voyageur Services Ltd. as the newest ambassador to Canadians for CANDU. As an indigenous-owned company supporting Ontario's nuclear sector, Voyageur brings an important perspective to the campaign and reflects the broader opportunity for nuclear investment to create long-term economic participation, skilled employment and business growth for indigenous communities," said Joe St. Julian, president, nuclear, AtkinsRealis."Their involvement strengthens our message that the future of Canadian nuclear must be built not only on proven technology and a strong domestic supply chain, but also on meaningful partnerships that broaden participation in the sector and ensure the benefits of that growth are shared across the country."
Launched in 2024, the Canadians for CANDU campaign represents a strong coalition that includes organized labour, members of Canada's nuclear supply chain, indigenous organizations, academic institutions, health care organizations and other Canadian businesses.
Led by co-chairs the Right Hon. Jean Chretien, the Hon. Mike Harris and the Hon. Dustin Duncan, the movement brings together leaders from across Canada who share a belief that Canada's energy future should be built on Canadian technology, Canadian expertise and Canadian resources.
Together, Canadians for CANDU is advocating for a stronger, more secure and more prosperous future powered by homegrown innovation built by Canadians, for Canadians.
Voyageur Services combines decades of industry expertise with a deep commitment to indigenous values and community-first engagement. As a proudly first nations-owned business, Voyageur offers tailored contracting and staffing strategies that delivers high-performance construction solutions. Backed by strong industry networks and a proven team, Voyageur strengthens partnerships and creates opportunities that extend beyond the job site.
"Ontario's nuclear sector has been part of my family's story for generations. I have seen first-hand the stable careers, technical expertise and opportunities this industry creates for families and communities across the province," said president Clint Keeler. "At Voyageur Services Ltd., we are proud to contribute to that legacy by supporting safe, reliable nuclear operations and the continued strength of Canada's domestic supply chain. Joining Canadians for CANDU is an opportunity to help ensure the next generation of Canadian workers can benefit from the same kind of long-term opportunity that my family has experienced, while supporting a proven Canadian technology that strengthens our economy, energy security and industrial capability."
The CANDU moment
Canada has world-leading expertise in the design, construction, operation, maintenance, refurbishment and overall program management of nuclear reactors, supported by a highly qualified domestic supply chain.
CANDU technology is one of Canada's most important innovations and remains the country's only domestically developed and licensed large-scale nuclear reactor technology. CANDU reactors can use natural uranium, provide reliable, emissions-free baseload electricity and support the production of medical isotopes used in health care systems around the world. More than 250 Canadian companies contribute to the CANDU supply chain, creating economic benefits that reach communities across the country.
Each new CANDU project generates thousands of high-quality jobs and billions of dollars in economic activity, helping to sustain Canadian expertise in one of the world's most advanced industries. From uranium mining and fuel fabrication to engineering, construction and long-term operations, CANDU creates opportunities throughout the entire nuclear value chain.
By investing in Canadian technology, Canada invests in Canadian workers, businesses and communities -- strengthening domestic industrial capacity while building the infrastructure needed to power future economic growth.
The Canadians for CANDU campaign calls on federal and provincial governments to support the deployment of made-in-Canada CANDU technology as part of the country's long-term energy and economic strategy.
The choice is clear. It is time to choose CANDU.
