The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday edition that money manager Stan Wong continues to buy ASML Holding. The Globe's Brenda Bouw quotes Mr. Wong, portfolio manager and senior wealth adviser with the Stan Wong Group at Scotia Wealth Management in Toronto, saying that ASML, a Netherlands-based chip equipment maker, "is a stock we bought in the past couple of months. We also held it before. ASML makes the machines that semiconductor companies use to print microscopic circuit patterns onto silicon wafers. It has a dominant position in the industry and extremely high barriers to entry. ASML recently disclosed that some customers are expressing interest in placing equipment orders for 2029 and 2030. That's a lot of visibility into potential future demand. It's rare to find a tech company with customers looking several years ahead to secure its product or equipment." Over all, Mr. Wong is "constructively optimistic" on equities in the short term, citing strong corporate earnings growth. "What's interesting is that the market has become less expensive on a forward-earnings basis -- even as stock prices have risen -- and that's simply because earnings have outpaced prices," he says, while cautioning on the U.S. midterms.
