Healwell EXPANDS SMART SUMMARY AI DEPLOYMENT ACROSS NEW BRUNSWICK

Healwell AI Inc. has deployed Darwen-powered Smart Summary to customers across New Brunswick, bringing AI-powered (artificial intelligence) clinical summarization directly to front-line providers within the EMR (electronic medical record) they use every day.

Highlights:

• Healwell AI, through its subsidiary, Intrahealth Canada Ltd., has deployed Smart Summary across New Brunswick, delivering AI-powered clinical summarization directly within Profile, the electronic medical record platform used by front-line providers.
• Powered by Healwell AI's Darwen clinical AI platform, Smart Summary consolidates a patient's fragmented records into a single structured summary in seconds, reducing the time and cognitive load that clinicians spend on chart review.
• Smart Summary is available to more than 400 clinicians across New Brunswick, representing an initial deployment within Intrahealth's approximately 20,000-provider network across Canada, Australia and New Zealand and providing a pathway for broader adoption of Healwell AI's Smart Suite.
• The technology was implemented through Canada Health Infoway's vendor innovation program, with 50 clinicians across Ontario, British Columbia and New Brunswick evaluating the technology in real-world clinical settings and is the first deployment of Healwell AI's Smart Suite in Canada, with further deployments planned across Canada and internationally.

Smart Summary provides AI-generated clinical summaries directly within the EMR, addressing a distinct and growing pressure in primary care: the cognitive load of assembling a coherent picture of a patient from records fragmented across lab results, medication lists, scanned documents and clinical notes. That work sits alongside an already-heavy documentation load. The Canadian Medical Association and the Canadian Federation of Independent Business reported in January, 2026, that physicians in Canada spend an average of nine hours per week on administrative tasks, with family physicians carrying the greatest share. In evaluation through Canada Health Infoway's vendor innovation program, 84 per cent of clinicians said Smart Summary could save them time, and 79 per cent would recommend it to a colleague.

Smart Summary is powered by Darwen, Healwell AI's clinical artificial intelligence platform, which supports the company's broader Smart Suite of clinical AI applications, including Smart Search and Smart Identify. Smart Summary operates exclusively on Healwell AI's Darwen platform, with patient data remaining within the trusted environment. A traceability validation pipeline verifies each claim in the generated summary against the source record before it is presented to a provider. Every claim includes a direct link to its source document, enabling clinicians to quickly verify the underlying information and maintain the same standard of accountability they apply to traditional chart review. Clinicians participating in early pilots identified this source-linking capability as fundamental to building trust in AI-generated summaries.

Smart Summary is delivered as a Smart on FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) application, a deliberate design choice that uses an open, standards-based approach that supports the broader interoperability direction Canada Health Infoway is advancing across Canada. New Brunswick clinicians get the benefit today, and the same standard makes the path to other systems and other provinces a short one.

The technology was implemented and evaluated through Canada Health Infoway's vendor innovation program, which supports vendor-led solutions in real-world clinical settings. As part of the program, 50 clinicians across Ontario, British Columbia and New Brunswick put it through its paces in real-world clinical settings.

With Smart Summary now deployed across New Brunswick, Healwell AI and Intrahealth are continuing to expand the availability of clinical AI tools that integrate directly into existing provider workflows. The company plans to build on this deployment with additional Smart Suite implementations across Canada and international markets.
