The Investment Reporter, in its June 9, 2023, issue, says hold AutoCanada Inc., recently $17.14. The Reporter said buy 11 times from May 10, 2013, to Nov. 25, 2022, at prices ranging from $11.17 to $54.31. Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the 11 buys, the $11,000 position would now be worth $8,450. AutoCanada operates 65 franchised dealerships in Canada and 18 franchised dealerships in the United States. For the three months ended March 31, 2023, AutoCanada earned $8.4-million, or 32 cents a share, compared with earnings of $4.3-million, or 10 cents a share, in the first quarter of 2022. The company's revenue rose from $1.3-billion in Q1 2022 to $1.5-billion in Q1 2023. The company's adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization), though, declined from $57.4-million to $45-million. Economic uncertainty resulted in AutoCanada's margins being compressed. The company's adjusted EBITDA margin was just 2.9 per cent in Q1 2023. AutoCanada is expected to earn about $2.98 a share in 2023, down from $3.03 in 2022. The Reporter says the long-term outlook looks brighter, but does not advise further purchases right now.
