Abound Energy receives purchase order for AeroTex

2026-01-15 20:10 ET - News Release

Mr. Jason Birmingham reports

ABOUND ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC IP EVOLUTION AND RECEIPT OF PURCHASE ORDER FOR CATHODE MATERIALS, ADVANCING COMMERCIALIZATION OF ZAERAS (TM) LONG-DURATION ENERGY STORAGE TECHNOLOGY

Abound Energy Inc. has provided an update to its intellectual property strategy in support of the company's third-generation Zaeras zinc-air battery platform and its near-term commercialization objective.

Abound is advancing its commercialization strategy through a focused refinement of its intellectual property portfolio, alongside continued external validation of its core technologies. The company is discontinuing investment in select non-core legacy patents and applications that no longer align with current development priorities or planned commercial products. This action is expected to reduce continuing intellectual property expenditures while enabling capital and internal resources to be redirected toward engineering advancement, manufacturing readiness and product validation. In parallel, Abound is strengthening protection of critical proprietary know-how through trade secret strategies, enabling continued innovation without public disclosure of sensitive processes.

Separately, Abound has received a purchase order from an international customer for its proprietary AeroTex carbon-based gas diffusion layer, a key material used in high performance air cathode systems. AeroTex is the result of more than a decade of in-house research and engineering, and is protected as a trade secret. The material is engineered to precisely balance air permeability with effective liquid management, supporting consistent and reliable electrochemical performance under demanding operating conditions.

AeroTex delivers a differentiated combination of flexibility, mechanical durability, electrical conductivity and long-term stability, making it well suited for stationary energy storage and other electrochemical applications that rely on air cathode architectures. The receipt of this order represents third party validation of the material's performance and commercial relevance.

These developments reflect Abound's disciplined approach to protecting core innovations while accelerating progress toward market entry. By emphasizing trade secret protection for critical components such as AeroTex and sharpening its patent focus around Zaeras, the company is optimizing resource allocation to support scalable commercialization.

Zaeras is a long-duration energy storage solution designed to decouple power from energy capacity, eliminate thermal runaway risks and deliver materially lower system costs relative to incumbent technologies. As global demand for reliable, safe and economical long-duration energy storage continues to grow, Abound expects increasing interest in advanced cathode technologies that prioritize safety, scalability and cost-efficiency across grid, industrial and related energy applications.

About Abound Energy Inc.

Abound specializes in developing scalable, environmentally friendly, long-lasting energy technology. The company's patented Zaeras long-duration energy storage technology, leveraging zinc-air chemistry, guarantees the storage and on-demand delivery of electricity without the limitations or environmental risks associated with current market leaders.

About Abound's Zaeras technology

Zaeras is precision engineered to meet future energy requirements, with a specific emphasis on simplifying long-duration energy storage. Harnessing the potential of its multipatented Zaeras technology, Abound is poised to facilitate the seamless integration of green energy sources into the grid. This is achieved by minimizing curtailment, bridging the gap between supply and demand, and efficiently integrating green energy into the grid. Abound's strategic initiatives encompass opportunities for peak demand reduction, leveraging time-of-use arbitrage, participating in value stacking programs and entering the distributed long-duration energy storage sector. These endeavours are aligned with the company's central objective of increasing the integration and resiliency of green energy, while stabilizing the grid.

Distinguished by its inherent safety-free from fire or explosion hazards, Zaeras guarantees sustained capacity over an extensive life cycle. Simultaneously, it showcases versatility by independently managing charge and discharge operations. Comparable with other flow battery technologies, scaling up the energy capacity of Zaeras is as simple as increasing the size of the fuel tank, a cost-effective solution, from kilowatt-hours to megawtt-hours. This is a welcome alternative to the fixed power-to-energy ratio constraints ingrained in traditional systems, such as lithium-ion and zinc hybrid batteries.

We seek Safe Harbor.
