Zinc and Tin Supply Pressures Put Historic Mining Districts Back in Focus

Issued on behalf of GoldHaven Resources Corp.

2026-10-23 09:00 ET - News Release

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 23, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- U.S. Metal News News Commentary - Global demand for refined zinc is expected to exceed supply in 2026, with the deficit forecast at 88,000 tonnes, according to the International Lead and Zinc Study Group, which also forecasts world zinc mine production to decline by 2.6% this year to 12.40 million tonnes. Tin faces a longer squeeze: the International Tin Association forecasts that global tin demand will increase by 22% between 2026 and 2035, while refined tin supply is projected to grow by just 16%. Zinc, tin and lead are all on the U.S. government’s final 2025 List of Critical Minerals, and explorers are returning to historic polymetallic districts to test what modern drilling can find. Companies mentioned in today’s commentary include: GoldHaven Resources Corp. (CSE: GOH) (OTCQB: GHVNF) (FSE: 4QS), Nexa Resources S.A. (NYSE: NEXA), Titan Mining Corporation (NYSE American: TII) (TSX: TI), South32 Limited (ASX: S32) (ADR: SOUHY), Alphamin Resources Corp. (TSXV: AFM).

Where the Zinc Comes From Today

The ILZSG attributed most of this year’s expected drop in mine output to significant reductions at the Antamina, Garpenberg and Red Dog operations, while it forecasts global demand for refined zinc to rise by 1.4% to 14.02 million tonnes. The United States relies on imports for an estimated 73% of its refined zinc, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, and zinc was mined in five States at six mining operations by five companies.

Nexa Resources S.A. (NYSE: NEXA), a zinc producer with operations in Peru and Brazil, reported second-quarter zinc production of 79 thousand tonnes, up 8% year over year on higher grades, and Adjusted EBITDA of US$286 million, 78% above the prior-year quarter. In August, the company announced that its controlling shareholder agreed to sell its stake to Boliden in a share-for-share exchange, after which Boliden is expected to hold 64.68% of Nexa’s shares and voting rights, with completion expected during the first quarter of 2027.

“The operational inflection we have been working toward became visible this quarter,” said Ignacio Rosado, CEO of Nexa Resources.

Titan Mining Corporation (NYSE American: TII) (TSX: TI), which mines zinc at its Empire State Mines in New York, reported second-quarter revenue of $25.7 million, up 57% from a year earlier, on zinc production of 17.5 million payable pounds, and said it remains on track for 2026 production of 62 to 66 million payable zinc pounds.

“Titan delivered a record quarter. Revenue grew 57% and Adjusted EBITDA nearly quadrupled year-over-year, reflecting the strength of our zinc operations,” said Rita Adiani, President and Chief Executive Officer of Titan Mining.

A Historic Zinc-Lead-Silver Target, Drilled Again

GoldHaven Resources Corp. (CSE: GOH) (OTCQB: GHVNF) (FSE: 4QS), reported on October 22 that four of the first five diamond drill holes it has completed at the Middle D area of the historically named D Zone, within its Magno Project in northwestern British Columbia, intersected semi-massive to massive sulphide mineralization. Holes GOH26-10 and GOH26-13 intersected approximately 10.75 meters and 13 meters, respectively, of cumulative sulphide mineralization across separate intervals, which the Company notes are visual geological observations along drill core and not necessarily true widths. Laboratory assays are pending.

GOH26-10 encountered multiple mineralized horizons containing visible galena and sphalerite, the principal lead and zinc minerals, together with arsenopyrite-rich sulphides and garnet-bearing skarn. The drilling sits within a geophysical anomaly identified in an airborne survey the Company conducted in early 2026, and historical drilling in the broader D Zone area reported an interval of 7.6 meters grading 240 g/t silver, 4.73% lead and 4.74% zinc in 1982, a result GoldHaven has not independently verified and provides only for historical context.

“We are encouraged by the results at D Zone, with four of our first five drill holes intersecting significant intervals of semi-massive to massive sulphide mineralization,” said Rob Birmingham, President and CEO of GoldHaven. “The identification of multiple mineralized horizons, including visible lead-zinc sulphides and indications of tin-bearing skarn, is particularly interesting.”

The Company is advancing drill hole GOH26-14 and plans to complete logging, sampling and the submission of mineralized core for laboratory analysis, integrate the results into updated geological plans and sections, and report assays as they become available. Birmingham said the Company looks forward to evaluating the potential of D Zone alongside its ongoing tungsten exploration at Kuhn.

Tin Enters the Picture

Preliminary portable XRF screening of selected drill-core locations in GOH26-10 returned individual spot readings of up to 41.1% zinc, 3.85% lead and 1.76% tin, according to GoldHaven. The Company cautions that these are preliminary, non-representative spot measurements, not laboratory assays, and should not be interpreted as indicative of interval grades; laboratory assays may differ materially.

Any tin indication carries weight in a U.S. context. According to the USGS, tin has not been mined or smelted in the United States since 1993 or 1989, respectively, and the country relied on imports for an estimated 77% of its refined tin in 2025, sourced mainly from Peru, Bolivia, Indonesia and Brazil.

Alphamin Resources Corp. (TSXV: AFM), which mines tin at Bisie in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, reported contained tin production of 5,030 tonnes for the quarter ended September 2026 at an average achieved tin price of US$54,374 per tonne, with Q3 EBITDA estimated at US$171 million, compared with US$167 million in Q2. The company declared an interim dividend of CAD$0.13 per share, payable November 6, reported an interval of 19.29 meters grading 5.76% Sn from 426.41 meters at Mpama South, and expects to release its third-quarter financials on or about November 12.

Building the Next U.S. Source

South32 Limited (ASX: S32) (ADR: SOUHY) is building the Taylor zinc-lead-silver project at Hermosa in southern Arizona. In its fiscal 2026 results on August 27, the company said the U.S. Forest Service released the Final Record of Decision for Hermosa on July 7, 2026, and that Taylor’s first production is expected in the second half of fiscal 2028, with growth capital expenditure updated to US$3.3 billion.

“We are advancing construction of the Taylor zinc-lead-silver project at Hermosa, which is expected to deliver attractive returns from its long-life, low-cost production of zinc, silver and lead,” said Matt Daley, CEO of South32.
