The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has won a permanent ban against Brian Keasberry, a Las Vegas man charged alongside Vancouver's Aarif Jamani for the 2018 manipulation of County Line Energy Corp., the developer of a proposed hydroponics system. The SEC claimed that the men were part of a group that made $4.7-million while secretly unloading shares of County Line amidst the paid promotion of a device called the "Grow Box 5000." (All figures are in U.S. dollars.) Promotional material claimed that the company could be the "THE HOTTEST INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY" with an "upside of 489%," but the stock was eventually worthless.

The penalties for Mr. Keasberry are contained in a proposed judgment filed on Friday, July 10, in federal court in New York. The judgment permanently bans Mr. Keasberry from serving as an officer or director and permanently bars him from penny stocks. In addition, he must pay $87,864, representing a fine, disgorgement and interest. The sanctions represent a negotiated settlement, in which Mr. Keasberry has not admitted any wrongdoing.
