U.S. federal prosecutors have filed criminal charges against William Mikula, a Georgia stock tout who promoted a Vancouver company, Emerald Health Pharmaceuticals Inc., as "Curing Incurable Diseases and Giving Us Over 4,900% Potential Gains." Prosecutors claim that Mr. Mikula and his associates accepted $4.2-million in undisclosed payments from insiders to boost Emerald Health and other companies. (All figures are in U.S. dollars.) Those involved in the scheme include Avatar Dhillon, a Vancouverite living in California.
The charges against Mr. Mikula are contained in a criminal information sheet filed on Jan. 30, 2024, in federal court in the Central District of California. Prosecutors identify Mr. Mikula, 38, as an analyst working for a publication called Palm Beach Venture. Also defendants are Christian Fernandez, a Mexican citizen living in Georgia, and Amit Raj Beri, an Australian living in California and Florida. The information sheet lists Mr. Dhillon as a co-conspirator, but not as a defendant. He faces separate criminal charges in Boston, where he previously pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing. The men are all defendants in a related civil case filed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
