DANA POINT, Calif. -- (Business Wire)
CareTrust REIT, Inc. (NYSE: CTRE) announced today the release of its sixth annual Corporate Sustainability Report, highlighting the continued evolution of its sustainability and corporate responsibility initiatives during a year of significant business and portfolio growth.
The report outlines CareTrust’s consistent, operator-first approach to sustainability and the measured expansion of its strategy across three distinct platforms: its core skilled nursing business, UK care home portfolio, and emerging seniors housing operating portfolio (SHOP). CareTrust’s overarching Tenant ESG Program reflects its predominantly triple-net lease model and the important role operators play in property-level sustainability performance, while the company continues to advance its broader sustainability strategy as its business expands.
“As CareTrust grows across three distinct platforms, our sustainability strategy will evolve with the business while remaining guided by the same principles: engaging with the right operators, taking a disciplined approach, and supporting sustainable, long-term value creation,” said Dave Sedgwick, President and CEO of CareTrust REIT.
Key highlights from the 2025 report include:
- Transparency and ESG Ratings: Aligned Corporate Sustainability Report with leading industry standards and maintained ISS ESG Prime status, providing stakeholders with a transparent view of how sustainability considerations inform business strategy.
- ESG Governance: Updated company ESG Policy to reflect evolving governance practices and sustainability priorities, strengthening the foundation for accountability, risk management, and the consistent application of ESG principles.
- Climate Risk and Resilience: Assessed physical climate risks at newly acquired properties and initiated broader reviews of portfolio climate exposure, tenant preparedness, property-level resilience measures, and reviewed energy benchmarking and building performance requirements.
- Green Leasing, Tracking, and Performance: Expanded sustainability-related provisions in new leases, collected utility data across its US and UK portfolios, offered economic incentives for qualifying efficiency projects, and supported renewable energy installations across seven UK properties.
- UK Sustainability and Regulatory Compliance: Advanced UK sustainability efforts through tenant education, energy procurement discussions, performance benchmarking, regulatory assessments, and engagement with internal and external experts to support compliance with applicable Energy Performance Certificate and Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards requirements.
- Operator Engagement: Hosted fifth Operator Conference, bringing together tenant-operators for three days of practical insights on building resilient organizations, navigating regulatory and market developments, and identifying opportunities for innovation and sustainable growth.
- People and Organizational Capacity: Doubled professional headcount, expanded internal expertise, achieved 100% employee retention, hosted a company retreat, and recorded an average score of 96 on the Strata Intel Employee Wellness Assessment.
- Cybersecurity: Continued collaborating with a leading cybersecurity firm to protect data integrity, safeguard sensitive information, and strengthen response to evolving cybersecurity risks as part of broader risk management, governance, and business continuity efforts.
“Through our sustainability efforts, we aim to strengthen property performance, enhance portfolio resilience, and create meaningful value for our operators, residents, employees, stockholders, and other stakeholders in the long term,” said Dave Sedgwick, President and CEO of CareTrust REIT.
