NEW YORK -- (Business Wire)
Global X Management Company LLC (Global X), the New York-based provider of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), today announced enhancements, including name and ticker changes, to the Global X Conscious Companies ETF (KRMA). It has been renamed the Global X Morningstar Capital Allocation Leaders ETF (CPTL or “the Fund”), effective today.
The Fund’s underlying index has also changed; it now tracks the Morningstar US Capital Allocation Leaders Index (“the Underlying Index”). Newly created by Morningstar, Inc. (“Morningstar”), a leading provider of independent investment insights, the Underlying Index tracks US companies that exhibit strong capital allocation practices, as identified by Morningstar’s proprietary Capital Allocation Rating framework.
“Our Morningstar US Capital Allocation Leaders Index is a new index, powered by Morningstar equity research. It is based on the Morningstar Capital Allocation Rating, a forward-looking, qualitative assessment assigned by Morningstar’s equity research team that evaluates how effectively a company’s leadership team deploys financial resources to benefit investors. We are proud to offer it to Global X to support their ETF clients,” said Andrew Lane, director of equity research, index strategies at Morningstar.
Morningstar’s Capital Allocation Rating framework evaluates companies based on management’s effectiveness across three key areas – balance sheet strength, investment efficacy, and shareholder distributions. The aim is for the Underlying Index to include companies that maintain financial resilience, deploy capital productively, and return value to shareholders.
“Traditional market cap-weighted equity strategies generally do not evaluate companies based on capital allocation characteristics. As a result, investors gain exposure to companies with a wide range of capital allocation practices, including approaches that may be perceived as less disciplined with respect to leverage, acquisitions, and share issuance,” said Scott Helfstein, Head of Investment Strategy at Global X. “We believe using a research-driven approach to track how companies manage their capital could be a powerful driver of long-term shareholder value.”
CPTL aims to invest in companies with disciplined, accountable management – in other words, resilient businesses positioned to create durable value across market cycles.
The Underlying Index derives its constituents from the Morningstar US Target Market Exposure Index, which represents the top 85% of the investable equity market by float-adjusted market capitalization. Companies with a Capital Allocation Rating of “Exemplary” are targeted for inclusion in the Underlying Index.
