CACI's Good Dogs for Great Americans Reaches $50K Milestone to Fund First Veteran-Service Dog Team

PR Newswire

RESTON, Va., Oct. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- CACI International Inc (NYSE: CACI) today announced a milestone for its Good Dogs for Great Americans philanthropy program. Through this partnership with the Washington Capitals and America's VetDogs, CACI has delivered enough funding to support the raising, training, and placement of a specially trained service dog with a veteran.

Good Dogs for Great Americans turns defensive plays on the ice into meaningful support for those who have served our nation. Through the program, CACI donates $250 for every shot blocked by the Capitals, helping fund the extensive training and care required to prepare service dogs for veterans living with physical disabilities, post-traumatic stress, hearing and vision loss, and other challenges.

Midway into the first period of Thursday evening's match against the Nashville Predators, Washington Capitals defenseman Matt Roy recorded the season's 200th blocked shot, pushing CACI's donation total to $50,000 and officially funding the program's first veteran-service dog pairing. The Capitals' commitment to defense has powered the effort all season, led by defenseman Martin Fehérváry, whose team-leading 32 blocked shots have helped drive the program toward this achievement.

"When we launched Good Dogs for Great Americans, we knew every blocked shot could become something much bigger than a statistic," said Mike Shields, senior vice president at CACI and ambassador for Good Dogs for Great Americans. "Reaching this milestone means a future service dog is now beginning a journey that will ultimately lead to a veteran gaining a trusted partner, greater independence, and renewed confidence in daily life. Seeing that connection take shape is incredibly meaningful for everyone involved."

With this funding, America's VetDogs will immediately select a specialized service dog that is in the final stages of 18-24 months of preparation. The dog will be matched with a veteran, and both will complete a two‑week intensive training program at the America's VetDogs campus in New York. The pair will graduate in December and begin their journey together as a new team for independence.

"Raising $50,000 to cover the cost of training and placing a service dog with a veteran is an incredible milestone, and we are deeply grateful to CACI and the Washington Capitals for making it possible," said John Miller, president and CEO of America's VetDogs. "Through the Good Dogs for Great Americans partnership, every blocked shot by the Caps has helped make a difference. This is a powerful example of how teamwork and generosity can create a lasting, life-changing impact for those who have served our country."

Thanks to the Capitals's relentless shot-blocking efforts, the $50,000 needed to fully fund a veteran-service dog team was raised in just under one month. Every Capitals blocked shot this NHL season continues to generate funding, helping place more service dogs with veterans who need them most.

America's VetDogs is a national nonprofit that places specially trained service dogs with veterans, first responders, and active-duty service members with disabilities. It costs more than $50,000 to raise, train and place one service dog, but there is never a charge to the individual.
