Stockhouse Publishing Ltd. has won an $82,488 judgment in the Supreme Court of British Columbia against Portex Minerals Inc., one of its former advertising clients. Stockhouse had claimed that Portex signed up for a 12-month retail investor package. It then failed to pay.
The order was handed down in New Westminster on June 21, 2017. It is a default judgment, which means that Portex did not respond to the lawsuit. In addition to the $82,488 payment, the order directs Portex to pay $1,393 in legal costs.
The order comes after Stockhouse filed a notice of claim against Portex at the Vancouver courthouse on Nov. 10, 2016. According to the suit, Portex entered into an advertising agreement with Stockhouse on July 17, 2015. Portex was to receive exposure to retail investors, brokers, analysts and newsletter writers, according to the suit. Payment problems quickly ensued, Stockhouse said. According to the suit, Portex issued Stockhouse a $51,555 cheque on Sept. 2, 2015. The bank refused to honour the cheque. Stockhouse then demanded payment, with no success, the suit stated.
