Successful Inv says buy EnCana

2015-09-02 22:23 ET - In the News

The Successful Investor, in its September, 2015, issue, says buy EnCana Corp., recently $9.45. The Investor said buy nine times from December, 2009, to December, 2014, at prices ranging from $20 to $33. Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the nine buys, the $9,000 position would now be worth $3,638. The oil and gas producer continues to sell non-core properties as it focuses on four higher-margin projects in the Montney, Duvernay, Eagle Ford and Permian. The sales cut EnCana's output to 388,700 barrels a day in the quarter ended June 30, 2015, from 491,800 barrels a day a year earlier. The company's realized prices for oil and gas also declined. As a result, EnCana lost $167-million (U.S.), or 20 U.S. cents a share, in the second quarter of 2015. A year earlier, it earned $171-million (U.S.), or 23 U.S. cents a share. The company expects to spend up to $2.2-billion (U.S.) on new projects and upgrades in 2015. Its long-term debt of $6.1-billion (U.S.) is a high 80 per cent of its market cap, but it doesn't have to start repaying these loans until 2019. EnCana also holds $496-million (U.S.) in cash. The stock trades at just 3.7 times EnCana's projected 2015 cash flow of $1.98 (U.S.) a share. Buy.
