The Financial Post reports in its Thursday edition that today, Apogee Silver is scheduled to close a $20-million bought deal financing that could end up at $25-million if the underwriters choose to exercise the overallotment option. The Post's Barry Critchley, writing in Off the Record, says Apogee defines itself as a "mineral exploration and development stage company" that has projects in Bolivia and Chile. The proceeds from the issue are to be used for exploration activities. Since then, Apogee has been in the news. On April 15, Apogee issued a statement in response to reports from Bolivia that indicated that "subject to union demands, certain silver, zinc, lead and tin mines currently operated by foreign companies may be recovered by the Bolivian state." In those reports, it was indicated a government decree may be issued on May 1. Apogee scurried around and convinced itself that the possible government expropriation didn't apply to any of its operations. Apogee said it "does not believe at this time that it will be impacted by any recoveries that may or may not occur." More importantly, it's acting as if there are no problems. Next week, the company is taking a group of analysts to the operations.
