New York spot gold gained $15.40 to $1,330.70 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 11.44 points to 766.20 while the TSX Gold Index added 8.06 points to 259.96. Most Canadian gold miners advanced today, led by Iamgold Corp. (IMG), which added 44 cents to $6.24 on 3.99 million shares, and Alamos Gold Inc. (AGI), which rose 47 cents to $11.65 on 905,000 shares.

Albert Matter and James Anderson's NuLegacy Gold Corp. (NUG), down 3.5 cents to 27.5 cents on 1.48 million shares, has received assays for the first 10 holes drilled this year at its Iceberg project in Nevada. Eight of the tests were drilled to expand the footprint of the known mineralization; the other two were scout holes into other targets. One of the eight holes returned 0.40 gram of gold per tonne over 51.8 metres, another yielded 0.32 gram per tonne over 80.8 metres. There were a few narrower intervals with higher grades, including a 4.6-metre interval that averaged 2.44 grams per tonne. Nothing came close to the hole in an earlier program that assayed 3.9 grams per tonne over 41.2 metres, although two of the tests did attempt to expand that higher-grade zone.
