New York spot gold fell $2.80 to $1,251.90 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 7.91 points to 686.14 while the TSX Gold Index rose 0.60 point to 222.04. There was little movement among Canadian gold miners today. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) rose 12 cents to $28.16 on 1.55 million shares, while Iamgold Corp. (IMG) lost nine cents to $4.73 on 4.97 million shares.

Eric Owens and Mary Vorvis's Alexandria Minerals Corp. (AZX), up one-half cent to seven cents on 219,000 shares, is optioning three gold properties to Michael Curtis's Quinto Real Capital Corp. (QIT: $0.085). The three prospects, Gwillim, Fancamp and Embry are in the Chibougamau region of Quebec, the same district that hosts Quinto's Monster Lake project. Mr. Owens, president and chief executive officer, says the deal provides "great value for our non-core property assets" while allowing Alexandria to focus on its Cadillac Break project near Val d'Or. Mr. Owens "knows" Quinto Real will "move these projects forward in a timely and successful fashion." (That could be a classic case of Howe Street optimism, unless Mr. Owens knows more than Quinto's accountants. Quinto's coffers were empty at last report.)
