New York spot gold closed up $4.30 to $1,068.80 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 3.04 points to 520.43 while the TSX Gold Index gained 3.23 points to 128.89. Most Canadian gold miners had good days. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) gained $1.02 to $36.50 on 999,000 shares. Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. (KGI), was one of the stragglers. It closed unchanged at $4.74 on 420,000 shares.
Jacques Perron's Thompson Creek Metals Co. Ltd. (TCM), up 16.5 cents to 39.5 cents on 3.64 million shares, is ramping up its Mount Milligan mine, 150 kilometres northwest of Prince George. The company averaged a mill throughput of 52,500 tonnes during November, up from barely 44,000 tonnes during the summer. There is still work to be done as the company wants to boost production to 62,500 tonnes per day no later than early in 2016. It is not far off the mark: Mount Milligan set a daily record of 61,579 tonnes last week.
